These new stanzas to traditional carols help to connect his birth with our lives. They appeal for social justice, care of Creation, and discipleship through simpler living.

Advertising is designed to keep us dissatisfied, to make us feel that we’ll be better or more popular when we buy a particular product. How do we resist that pressure? How do we help children resist?
How we celebrate reflects who we are. How we celebrate identifies the values we hold dear. I may say I don’t like this gluttonous lifestyle I’m living, but unless I make the decision to live differently – and do it – then nothing has really changed for me. And remember, we have alternatives.
